Ad Hosts File

Ad Hosts File – Health update…things go from bad to worse…slipped and fell in my kitchen and broke my foot (ankle) plates and screws to repair. A few weeks later, I slipped and fell again with my boot. When I tried to break my fall…I broke both arms instead. Imagine!! A cast on my leg and a cast on both arms…as much as I hate it, I think it’s time to give up on keeping the Hosts file…

Block Adobe Photoshop Cc Activation Using Windows Hosts File

You can use a modified HOSTS file to block ads, banners, third-party cookies, third-party page counters, web bugs, and even most hijackers and possibly unwanted programs. This is done by blocking the connection(s) that provide the small gems. The hosts file is loaded into memory (cache) at startup, so there is no need to enable, configure, or change any settings except for the DNS Client service (see below). Windows will automatically look for the existence of the HOSTS file, and if found, it will first check the HOSTS file for access to the web page you requested. 0.0.0.0 (the prefix) is the location of your computer, so when the page you’re viewing asks for an entry in the MVPS HOSTS file, your computer will think 0.0.0.0 is the location of the file. If this file is not placed, it will be moved to the next file, thus blocking the loading of a banner, cookie or rogue tracker or javascript file to the ad server.

Example – the following 0.0.0.0 ad.doubleclick.net entry will block all files served by this DoubleClick Server to the web page you are viewing. This also prevents the server from tracking your activities. Why? … because in some cases “Ad Servers” like Doubleclick (and many others) silently try to open a separate connection on the web page you are viewing, record your actions, and then yes … you can visit Stay tuned for more sites.

Using a well-designed HOSTS file can speed up web page loading without waiting for ads, annoying banners, hit counters, etc. to load. It also helps protect your Privacy and Security by blocking sites that may track your browsing habits, also known as “click tracking” or data miners. Simply using the HOSTS file isn’t a cure-all for Internet threats, but it does provide another very effective “Layer of Protection.”

In case you’re wondering… this all happens in microseconds, which is faster than getting a file across the world. Another great feature of the HOSTS file is that it is a binary file, which means that if some parasite gets into your system (usually with other products), the culprit cannot exit (call home) if the necessary records are present. . . That’s why it’s so important to keep your HOSTS file up to date. Get notified about MVPS HOSTS updates

Important Note: The HOSTS file now includes changing the prefix in the HOSTS entries to “0.0.0.0” instead of the usual “127.0.0.1”.

This was done to solve the slowdown problem caused by Microsoft changing the “TCP loopback interface” in Win8.1.

This change in prefix should not affect everyday users. I got some feedback from COMODO Antivirus and System Mechanic had problems with the “0.0.0.0” prefix to solve this problem:

You can use the “Replace” function in Notepad to convert the entries, or one of these free utilities (see below) has the option to change the entries from “0.0.0.0” to “127.0.0.1”.

This download contains a simple batch file (mvps.bat) that renames the existing HOSTS file to HOSTS.MVP and then moves the included updated HOSTS file to the desired location. For more information, see your version of Windows…

(mvps.bat) when you run the batch file – right click and select: Run as administrator. After updating, you should see another prompt stating that the task has been completed. Some users may see a pop-up from certain Security programs about changes to the HOSTS file. Allow the change … but if you see this popup (changes to the HOSTS file) any other time … check it out.

Microsoft has done it again… making changes to the Operating System without any explanation. If you recently upgraded to Windows 10 version 1709, you cannot make any changes to the DNS client because it is greyed out. If you previously disabled DNS Client Service or set it to Manual, you can still do this. Then to make matters worse… Registry entries (see below) are no longer used in Windows 10/1709… they are simply ignored. To check your Windows version… Right-click the Start menu and select > Run Winver (type) (click OK)

If you decide to run the DNS Client service… You can create a small batch file that cleans DNS whenever you want.

Then go to File > Save As > change the file type to All Files and name the batch file flushdns.bat and place it in your Windows folder.

In most cases DNS Client Service is not needed, it is recommended to disable it. These instructions are intended for a single (home user) PC. If your machine is part of a Domain, check with your IT department before trying this solution. This is especially true for laptop users who travel or bring work machines home. Make sure you reinstall the Service (if necessary) before connecting to your work domain (requires a reboot)…
