We want to emphasize that we do not advocate the use of tablets and apps as a substitute for real situations and communication with your child. As we all know, one-on-one and imaginative play is very important at this age. Their little brains are like sponges, after all! In fact, the AAP does not recommend any screen media use (other than video chat) before 18 months, and recommends that children ages 2-5 limit screen use to 1 hour per day of quality programming. They also recommended that parents watch media with their children to help them understand what they see and apply it to the world around them.
And now, we’d like to present our tried-and-true list of the best educational programs for toddlers and preschoolers, in no particular order:
This fun program takes your child from being a non-reader to reading chapter books. It helps build real, long-term reading skills by focusing on phonics and phonemic awareness curriculum, sight words, vocabulary, comprehension, and reading for meaning.
From the very first lesson, children are motivated and excited to learn. And the journey continues with hundreds of online reading lessons and thousands of great books to guide and motivate your child every step of the way.

We are amazed at the progress of our 4-5 year old testers. Many of them ranged from being able to identify a few letters, to knowing them all + their sounds + actually READING!
The app is extremely interactive and uses characters, songs and fun rewards to motivate kids – they earn golden eggs that they can use to buy things for their avatar or home. All of our testers loved the reward eggs and were happy to finish their “lessons” for progress.
You can also receive detailed progress reports as well as access downloadable Reading Eggs activity sheets that match the program’s lessons.
We recommend Reading Eggs as one of our “Favorite Finds” in our newsletter and have received amazing responses from our customers telling us about their positive experiences with the app:

Avokiddo ABC Ride takes your child on an exciting journey through the alphabet – with tons of interactive fun that will keep them thoroughly engaged. After choosing who you want to take on your adventure (Beck or Bo), you can start your letter hunt through different challenges, such as catching apricots that fall from the tree (A) or blowing up balloons to reveal the missing letter (B). do it After the game is over, the ABC Ride plays the alphabet and your child can fill in the letters for words like “APRICOT” or “BALLOON” while hearing the letter names or phonetic sounds.
We love that you can adjust the level of difficulty by selecting lowercase or uppercase and choosing to shuffle or order the letters. A fun and great introduction to the ABCs and basic phonics where your child will be excited to see what the letter adventure is like.
Between the beautiful animations and the accompanying music, this game was an absolute blast for our test subjects (and their parents too!). Each “level” requires you to complete a different task with bugs that teach concepts such as numbers, colors, shapes and puzzles, such as finding all the colored butterflies to collect in a jar or guiding a bee through a maze. Our 3-year-old test subjects were challenged, but always encouraged, because each level of the game was completely different from the previous level, so they were excited to see what it was like.
Best Apps For Kids 2022: Educational & Fun Phone Games, Tools & More
Recommended Age of WML: Due to the fact that manual manipulation is more difficult (like using two fingers on the screen instead of one), we recommend this for slightly older children 3-5.
This is a wonderful app to introduce the concepts of numbers and math to your child in a fun environment. Enter the Moose Juice Shop and practice counting, addition and subtraction by making smoothies or scroll through Lost and Found to group similar objects together. By solving these problems, the kids earn prizes (which they love!) to help them build their city and decorate the buildings, which is a great form of motivation to continue their education.
We especially loved the parent “report card” that shows you the thought process and learning behind each game and what your little one is mastering on schedule or needs more work on. Plus, you can’t beat the price!
While these apps are a little flashcard-y (that might be a word, right? ?!), they’re also incredibly entertaining and a hit with our kid test subjects. Both programs help kids associate a letter or number with their sounds, and they also do a good job of showing where the letter is in the alphabet or how the number is spelled.

This app was a surprise finalist for us, but our young testers couldn’t stop playing! It’s a great way to start teaching colors, letters and shapes – whether it’s choosing the right alien to match the shapes of flying saucers or putting together simple interactive puzzles.
We recommend a helping hand from mom in the beginning to help them understand the games, but once shown, our kids were able to work their way through the matches and puzzles on their own, even clapping between each correct and complete match. to do It will make your kids brain work!
A fun and educational gift, this app can keep a preschooler engaged for a long time… and bonus, they’re learning too! Drive About has a sort of Candy Land vibe where you transport your vehicles (from cars to submarines to rockets and hot air balloons) to various challenges and games involving numbers and sequences.
Of The Best Learning Apps For Kids
The educational aspect is “hidden” through fun activities such as shooting food into a shark’s mouth, getting the numbers on sea cucumbers using hit tactics, or crossing the correctly numbered flags with the mouse.
We loved that the app uses a child’s voice to narrate and fun sounds that our testers found extremely engaging. This is fun!
This fun app comes from a series of fun apps from Sago Mini. There are so many, it was hard to pick just one, but we found Puppy Preschools to be the most educational. It gives kids fun ways to learn about colors, spatial awareness, music (thanks to the colorful doggy xylophone!) and number recognition.
We loved the way this app encouraged kids to play and learn for free – teaching them how to properly manipulate things with the tablet screen.
Best Apps For Math And Counting
There are few apps we’d say we wouldn’t mind putting on our adult screens because of their visual appeal, but Metamorphabet is beautifully executed and awe-inspiring. It allows the child to focus on one letter at a time and see several examples of how that letter is connected to common words (which they can find by touching the letter and moving things around them). This app would be a great option for an early introduction to the alphabet and is especially fun for our younger kids.
Well, before you get scared off by some of the prices of these premium apps, let’s just say we were very skeptical.
