George is counting like crazy lately! I don’t know when, but one day it just clicked for him. Now to put it into context, these are some fun counting activities for preschoolers to practice their 1-2-3!

Creative Chinese New Year Activities For Preschool

Once I see my kids interested in counting, they just can’t seem to stop! George counts everything. When we play board games, he counts how many cards, stones, whatever is left. Board games are also great for beginners to count spaces, usually it’s only a few spaces at a time so it’s a good start.

Whatever it is… make counting fun and natural for the kids. I never try to force a learning problem on them. But just expand on what they are currently interested in.

These are activities that really focus on the kids counting. I’ve also put together some great number activities that involve counting, but also recognizing numbers and one-to-one correspondence.

We are big fans of learning through play and all of our creative learning ideas on this blog are designed to be as fun, practical and engaging as possible for little hands and minds. You just never have to use a worksheet or math book to learn to count.

Count your steps as you climb the stairs, count the number of dogs you see in the park, the flowers in the garden, the items on the conveyor belt in the supermarket, fingers and toes while singing, how many red cars whizzing past the window and soon! Children learn best through real-world experiences, and then when we build on that to create more learning at home or at school, they can be just as practical, tactile, and enjoyable.
