Agentless backup is a bit misleading. There is an agent, but only one. It runs on a selected machine to backup the entire network.

Immediately Gain Greater Host Visibility – Agent-based backups are typically loaded into the operating system stack. This means more control and visibility over the host system. This is not immediately available for agentless backups, it takes time to check the filesystem and decide whether to do incremental or differential backups.
Does not drain network bandwidth – Agent-based backups use local resources to preprocess and compress data. They then transfer the data over the network to a storage device (NAS/SAN, local USB drive, or remote host). If your bandwidth is near its limit, proxy-based backup won’t get in the way.
Expensive – Many environments now have multiple virtual machines (VMs) per server. Purchasing and managing agents for each physical and virtual server is difficult for many businesses.
Workstation Image Backups
They can harm your environment – some backup proxies use kernel-level space objects and can crash servers if they are buggy. When applications fail, proxies take on a lot of the blame and have fallen out of favor in some data centers.
Extra work for IT administrators – Backup agents need to be deployed and managed, resulting in extra work for responsible administrators. Consider maintaining dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of servers—effectiveness and efficiency can be challenging.
No installation downtime – In terms of convenience, agentless backups are easier to implement; there is no need to reboot the system while installing the backup. No downtime issues.
Everything is centralized – It is much easier to manage agentless backups because everything is in one place. Many businesses today often have hybrid environments—physical, virtual, and cloud intertwined. Having your backup solution in one place makes it easy to manage.

Work in a fully virtualized environment – Virtualization eliminates the drawbacks of the agentless approach. All major processes are executed by the hypervisor.
One Solution That Means Money Savings – With no agency licensing fees, businesses can save a lot of money by going agency-free. Plus, it’s easy to scale; you only pay for what you use, and the cost increases proportionally as you grow — typically, the model is based on data storage. CPU usage is also low since there is only one agent (although it is consolidated on the backup server).
Requires a fully virtualized environment – In some cases, you can only use agentless backup for virtual machines. Physical machines still require proxy-based backups. Some software, such as Asigra, can run on both virtual and physical servers.
Limited custom VM code execution – Some custom code, such as pre- and post-backup scripts and truncation of Exchange or SQL logs, cannot be executed during an agentless backup in a VM. Again, this is not universal – some software can do this.

First, it’s worth noting that the oVirt project was initiated by Red Hat and is the basis upon which the Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization system is built. Eliminate painful “export storage domain” strategies like no disk exclusion capabilities or extra clones. By installing vProtect nodes on the cluster as proxy VMs, it is possible to forward snapshots to backup destinations, exclude drives from backups, and read data directly from storage.
The downside is that you need to install proxy VMs (at least 1 per cluster) and it doesn’t support incremental backups.
This option is present with oVirt version 4.2. This backup strategy is easy to set up, with incremental backup options and available disk exclusions. There is no need to install multiple agent VMs. It is a single external node that calls the API. However, it’s worth noting that data transfers pass through the manager, which can cause bottlenecks.

Since this policy backup is done via SSH directly from the hypervisor backup transfer, it is greatly improved. What’s more, there is no need to install Node in the oVirt environment. Simply put, SSH Transfer is an improvement of the disk image transfer API backup strategy. The actual transfer may also be done using netcat, which may further improve performance.
This policy supports incremental backups. This approach is possible due to changes in oVirt 4.4. Changed Block Tracking (CBT) uses information about zeroed and changed blocks to reduce data size and speed up the backup process. Each incremental backup uses a checkpoint, which is a point in time created after the previous backup. Therefore, this policy does not require snapshots to be taken. Currently it is a technology preview and there are still some issues waiting to be resolved in oVirt, but this strategy will be recommended in the future.
Virtualization has become readily available and thus popular and profitable for small businesses as well. Previously, only enterprise-level companies saw its use and financial benefits.
However, virtualization alone cannot solve the problems facing modern data center architects. Infrastructures, often consisting of hundreds or thousands of virtual machines, must be properly secured so that data lost due to accidents or errors can be easily recovered.
