Veeam Cloud Connect Providers

Veeam Cloud Connect Providers – Veeam Service Provider Console is a cloud-based solution with a distributed architecture. The product architecture consists of the following structural components:

A central component of the solution architecture is the Veeam Service Provider Console. Veeam Service Provider Console is a multi-tenant web portal for centralized management and monitoring of backup operations and services.

The Veeam Provider Console consists of two structural parts, the Veeam Provider Console Server and the Veeam Provider Console Web Interface. The Veeam Provider Console Server is the engine responsible for providing centralized management of Veeam Backup Agent and Veeam Backup and Replication. Veeam Service Provider Console Web UI provides a web interface that allows users to interact with the Veeam Service Provider Console server.

Veeam Cloud Connect Replication Deployment

The Veeam Service Provider Console allows you to manage Veeam products installed on machines on local or remote networks. To communicate with managed devices, the Veeam Service Provider Console uses the cloud infrastructure implemented with Veeam Cloud Connect.

The main components of the cloud infrastructure are the cloud gateways and the Veeam Cloud Connect server. Cloud gateways form a bridge between the Veeam provider console portal on one side and the managed machines on the other side, and implement a TLS-secured communication tunnel between the two sides.

The Veeam Cloud Connect server is responsible for managing the cloud infrastructure components. Additionally, if you use Veeam Cloud Connect to provide cloud repository and cloud host resources to customers or enterprise business units, the Veeam Cloud Connect server is responsible for managing these resources.

Veeam Service Provider Console uses management agents to interact with machines in managed infrastructures. Management agents are Veeam Service Provider Console software components that are responsible for collecting data and performing all kinds of management, software installation and configuration tasks on managed machines. Management agents must be installed on machines running Veeam products (Veeam Backup Agents, Veeam Backup & Replication, Veeam Cloud Connect, Veeam ONE and Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 Servers). You can also install management agents on Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager.

The Veeam Service Provider Console management agent can act as a cloud agent, a client agent, a master agent, or an infrastructure agent.

The Veeam Service Provider Console management agent setup file contains a list of FQDNs or IP addresses of cloud gateways assigned to the enterprise. This list can contain a maximum of 7 IP addresses or 150 FQDN symbols. When you deploy a management agent on a computer, the agent connects to the Veeam provider console using the first available gateway from the list. If the connection fails, the management agent will automatically switch to the next gateway. Once connected, the Management Agent obtains the FQDN or IP addresses of all cloud gateways assigned to the enterprise from the Veeam Service Provider Console.

Management agents deployed on machines running client or hosted Veeam products (Veeam Backup Agents, Veeam Backup & Replication, Veeam ONE and Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365) collect data about managed software and send this data to cloud gateways. In turn, the cloud gateway sends the obtained data to the Veeam Service Provider Console. Management agents deployed on Veeam Cloud Connect servers directly send data to the Veeam service provider console, bypassing cloud gateways. Commands from the Veeam provider console to management agents are sent in reverse order using the same path.

Veeam Service Provider Console aggregates the collected data into the Veeam Service Provider Console database and makes it available on the Veeam Service Provider Console portal. The database can be hosted on a Microsoft SQL Server running on the same computer where the Veeam Provider Console is installed, or on a remote Microsoft SQL Server (recommended). Welcome to blog newcomers and returners. Thank you very much! In this week’s blog series, I’ll take a closer look at using Azure IaaS for backup, specifically the Veeam Cloud Connect service on Azure.

Iland Secure Backup With Veeam

This service is more applicable if you are a managed service provider (MSP) as it allows you to host customer backups on an off-site multi-tenant platform in the public cloud. Most IT professionals will have heard of Veeam and its range of products as they are one of the leading vendors of data backup and replication. In the first part of this series, I will discuss the requirements as well as the initial configuration steps in Azure.

The diagram above shows an overview of what Veeam Cloud Connect looks like. As you can see, you have several clients that provide data over an SSL connection to cloud storage in Azure. In order to use this service, the end user/customer must meet the following prerequisites:

I won’t cover it in this blog, but backing up Office 365 mailboxes using Veeam Cloud Connect is also supported. In order for a managed service provider to offer this service, it must meet the following prerequisites:

Before going through the steps required to configure this service, let’s review some of the key roles and concepts:

Veeam Cloud Connect Backup

Roles and Concepts: Communication in Azure is between two parties, the service provider and the tenant. A service provider is an organization that provides cloud infrastructure (mainly a repository) to tenants, and a tenant is a customer that sends data off-site and stores its backups in the cloud infrastructure.

To get started with Veeam Cloud Connect on Azure, you must first provision a virtual machine through Azure Marketplace. Now you have two options and it all depends on your requirements. If you’re an enterprise-level company looking to extend your backups off-site to Azure, then VCC Enterprise is the right choice. Managed Service Providers (MSPs) who want to run a multi-tenant solution where they can send multi-client backups to Azure need a “VCC for Providers” and that’s what I’m looking for.

One thing to note is the current version in the lower left corner. At the time I wrote this post, the latest version of Veeam is 9.5 update 4a, which means that the Azure version is out of date. This means that if you are doing a remediation and your company’s Veeam services have the latest version, you will need to update the version in Azure once the VM is provisioned.

Clicking “Create” allows you to create a virtual machine where you can select the appropriate configuration, including:

That’s part one, stay tuned for part two where I’ll go into more detail on configuring the Veeam Cloud Connect platform. Until next time – again and again! This diagram and table describe the ports that must be open to ensure that Veeam Provider Console components and the devices that interact with those components can exchange data.

Note. If you deploy the Veeam Service Provider Console server and the Veeam Cloud Connect server on different networks, we recommend that you create a VPN bridge between these networks. It is not recommended to expose the ports of Veeam Provider Console Server and Veeam Cloud Connect Server to the Internet.
