What’s New In Vmware Cloud Foundation V2.3.0

Passwords can be managed within the VCF within the SDDC Manager. The advantage of which is twofold. First, we have a central place where all the Passwords are stored, and second, when we change a password, it will update it in all the places where that password is used.

The best example of this account is email@example.com. This system is used to manage the environment, but it is also used for connecting NSX to vCenter;
If we changed the password of this account through the regular way, this password was not updated and the connection between vCenter Server and NSX Manager would fail. The same goes for connecting to vRealize Log Insight.
But the passwords can also be rotated (multiple times), which will generate random passwords. Since you need to know the passwords, you can do this by logging into the SDDC manager’s cli and running;

If you need to have other people logging into the SDDC Manager, we can also manage User Accounts. User accounts and associations are taken from the SSO domain in which the SDDC is created.
I added the newly created VCF environment to my Active Directory domain, which can be done the “normal way”, by connecting your PSC to AD, and then adding AD as an Identity source. In this way, users created in the SSO domain are made available to the SDDC manager.
There is only one function available, which is “Cloud Admin”. It then grants permission to read, write and delete workload domains. Given one user access, you can enter:
Of course, good record management is important when managing your SDDC. So we want certificates that are signed by a CA that is also trusted in the environment. This way we get a nice green “safe” feeding experience.
Announcing Vmware Cloud Foundation 4.2
For VCF certificate management is quite straightforward. It is necessary to establish a connection with the CA (Microsoft) CA and from that point we can request and create certificates for all SDDC parts.
Establishing a connection with an existing CA is fairly straightforward. We need a user account, request and create the necessary documents and an appropriate document template. So I created a user, called svc_ca_sddc and granted this user permission to request documents. Another key element here is that the device needs to receive basic authentication. After all this is created and configured, we need to configure the SDDC Manager to use this user:
It is important to note here that you must use the “short name” formula, so without spaces. Otherwise, you will get an error message when requesting the certificate (for reference: “Connection via Project Module 0x80094800”).
We do this through the Domain workload (and Domain Management is the Domain workload). I will point this out to one, for here, but basically, almost all parts can be certified in this way. The NSX-T is an exception to this.
Upgrading To Vmware Cloud Foundation 4.4 In My Lab
We will go to the Security tab of the Domain Management inventory and there we can see all the members that have certificates for:
Let’s start with the vCenter Server. We select the server and click “Generate CSR”. We have a form to fill out and submit it;
After the CSR has been processed, we can generate a certificate, based on the information we have previously collected:
Once the certificate has been successfully generated, click “Install Certificates”, which will install the certificate (duh). Of course, this will lead to a restart of services, so it will mean that your environment is up for management, for a while.
Vmware Cloud Foundation 4.5 Released
As it is now, let’s be a developer. Next time I will look at my first domain deployment and after that, I will do a VCF upgrade. It is not surprising that VMware Cloud Foundation on VxRail features numerous and unique integrations with many VCFs, such as SDDC Manager and VMware Cloud Builder. These integrations are the result of a co-operative effort by Dell Technologies and VMware with every release of VCF on VxRail. The following figure highlights some of the components that are part of this integration effort.
These VCF integrations on VxRail provide customers with a unique number of features in various categories, from security to infrastructure deployment and expansion, to advanced monitoring and visibility, all of which are designed to drive infrastructure operations.
Where are these integrations? The following figures outline how the launch on Day 0 to Day 2 operations will impact the experience with VCF on VxRail.
In this series I will demonstrate some of these unique integration features, some in more detail. But for this initial post, we want to highlight one of the customer’s favorite and differential benefits that emerged from this integration work: full stack automated lifecycle management (LCM).
