So, keeping the product updates and releases in mind, VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle manager 1.2 introduced interoperable packages that make the existing VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager compatible with the updated products it supports.

VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager currently supports the deployment and management of products such as VMware Cloud Director, Usage Meter, vRealize App Tenant Operations Manager.

If any of the above product is updated and a new version is released, then a corresponding VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager interoperability bundle will be available containing the new product interoperability definitions. Additionally, this bundle will include details on VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager integration with the products. Finally, the package includes an installation script to install the interop bundle on the VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager host.

The interop bundle is available in the VMware Download Page under the respective version of VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager in Drivers & Tools. For VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager 1.2, you can find the interop bundle here.

Vmware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager

For the past several years, VMware has been introducing new products to automate the deployment of VMware products and reduce deployment time from weeks to days or hours.

Simplified Lifecycle Management In Vsphere 7

If you have previously tried to deploy a VMware cloud stack in a dell Enterprise hybrid cloud solution (vCenter, NSX, VRA, vRB, vRLI, vROPS) or if you have tried to install products by importing them into vCenter to then you can find out how the time has changed the deployment of those new products.

Introduction What is Day 0, 1, 2.. N, in the context of cloud infrastructure?

Day 2: Continuous products and workloads of life cycle tasks like (Change password, Renew security certificates, Scale up or out, .. ).

If the answer is yes, your search ends here.

VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager 1.1 was recently launched to address your automated deployment and configuration needs. With its help, you can deploy the aforementioned components. It not only helps with deployment but also performs Day-2 Operations like upgrades/patches and configuration of deployed components.

Now that we know what VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager does, let’s dig deeper and understand its deployment and capabilities in detail.

VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager is designed to provide a REST API to trigger the required tasks. It needs access to the repository (NFS mounted or locally) to hold OVA files, upgrade packages, etc.

VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager enables providers to build a robust Software-Defined Datacenter (SDDC) with the help of the mentioned components and promotes VMware Validated Design (VVD).

Time is money, especially when automation can save you deployment time. Providers can easily deploy and manage these components with the help of VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager. Since it can be deployed on any vCenter or even VMware Cloud Foundation the integration of products and use cases like VMware Cloud Director (VCD) on VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) becomes more simplified and beneficial.

VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager comes with a single API to deploy and manage multiple products. With VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager you can deploy, upgrade and perform some of the Day-2 Operations.

Vmware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager

VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager is currently available as a disposable docker image. Below is the high-level deployment procedure:

VMware Cloud Director can be deployed with a single or multiple cells. However, we need to ensure that the prerequisites are met and that necessary components such as NFS Server storage, DNS records, NSX-T deployment, and Load Balancer are pre-configured.

We need to enter that data in the API call and based on the VCD will be deployed.

Using VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager, you can deploy a Usage Meter. However, DNS entries of the Usage Meter node and network data must be provided along with the other parameters such as product integration data and vCenter data in the API Call. It should be registered in VCP after deployment and then rerun deployment to configure the collectors.

RabbitMQ multi-node deployment is supported using VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager. The API call structure for this product is almost the same as other products mentioned above where you need to provide node, load balance data, product integration data, and vCenter data where the RabbitMQ nodes will be available.

The vRealize Operations Manager Tenant App can also be deployed. You must ensure that DNS and host network registration details are configured and provided in the API calls.

Once the respective POST request has been made, the task ID will be visible, and can be used to get the status of the current task by using a GET request.

The following list includes the VMware products that can be upgraded using VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager:

Now isn’t that great? I am sure that with the launch of this tool, many VCD providers will consider VCF deployment as it makes deployment and management much easier.
