What Is Vsphere Lifecycle Manager Vlcm?
Today, we are pleased to announce the general availability of vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager 1.1. The new version offers enhanced capabilities from day two to minimize the effort your IT team spends on configuration management.
The IT infrastructure and operations team must spend time and effort to ensure optimal configuration of vRealize products in all types of environments, from internal development/test to production system. However, the settings will naturally change over time due to new versions, updates, new equipment, unauthorized changes, and many other reasons. When the current state of your environment is different from the expected or correct state of your environment, we call the difference drift. Drift is common and drift management is one of the key day two operational tasks to prevent unwanted or unplanned changes. vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager 1.1 simplifies backlog management by enabling the following capabilities.
In addition, vRSLCM1.1 offers several highly requested features by customers, including “Delete Environment” and better error handling in the user interface. We are also implementing the VMware Solution Exchange marketplace integration with vRSLCM.

What’s New In Vrealize Suite Lifecycle Manager 1.1
VRealize Log Insight Cloud What’s New in Aria Operations for Logs (formerly vRealize Log Insight Cloud) – October 2022 You may have noticed that one of the major new features with the VMware vSphere 7 release was vSphere Lifecycle Manager (vLCM). It’s a great new tool that provides a new declarative model for keeping your hosts in a vSphere cluster up to date across the board. It has some great new capabilities that you won’t find in the old vSphere Update Manager utility. In this post, we will take a closer look at what vSphere Lifecycle Manager vLCM is and what capabilities it brings to your environment.
The new vSphere 7 Lifecycle Manager vLCM is a comprehensive toolset that makes updating your vSphere environment easier and more efficient. It is a declarative or desired state model. The great thing about the vLCM platform is that it allows you to have this functionality not only for ESXi builds and updates, but also for vendor plugins and optional firmware and driver updates.
VMware is now partnering with select hardware vendors, so using vLCM you can now update drivers and firmware versions for things like storage controllers, NICs, and other PCI-e devices.
In case you were wondering, at the time of this writing, there are two providers that support vLCM right now. Those are:

There are more vendors in the pipeline and I’m sure any vendor that wants to be used by customers moving forward with vSphere will work to make their hardware compatible with vSphere.
Have you ever waited, searched, and browsed message boards to see when the compatible “custom ISO” will be available from a hardware vendor like Dell when looking to upgrade your hosts? I know I have done that.
An interesting feature of the vLCM solution is that you can now have vendor plugins automatically downloaded and ported to the single cluster image.
For new cluster configurations, VMware has modified the quick start workflow for the new cluster to allow you to use the vLCM solution from cluster startup to benefit from the desired declarative state from the start.
Vrealize Suite Lifecycle Manager 2.0
Automatic checks are also a new feature of the vLCM solution. This is especially important when using the VMware HCI solution powered by vSAN. With vLCM it will check if the ESXi hosts and all devices adhere to the desired state model, but it will also check against the current HCL.
Image Depot: Consists of the base version of ESXi and any vendor image plugins or customizations. These are automatically downloaded to the image store.
You can see under Provider Plugins for third-party providers that have additional components that can be integrated into images.
On the Settings tab of vSphere Lifecycle Manager, you have the ability to configure settings for how patches are downloaded and configure email notifications.
Getting Started With Vsphere 7.0 Lifecycle Manager
Many may be wondering, how do you use vLCM instead of VUM? Actually it is very simple. When you click Manage with a single image in the Baselines menu option under Updates, you begin configuring vLCM.
You have several options here. You will notice that in Step 1: Define Image, you can choose the ESXi version, vendor plugins, firmware and driver plugins, and components. After you have made your choices here, click Save.
Then vSphere Lifecycle Manager will start an image compliance check on the cluster to check for drift, etc.
After the compliance check runs, you will see any deviations that may exist between the image and the ESXi hosts in the cluster. Click Finish Image Settings.
Vrealize Suite Lifecycle Manager
The Finish Image Settings dialog box will display a message to take note of. Basically, this message says that you are switching from using Baselines with VUM to the new vSphere Lifecycle Manager vLCM. Once you click Yes, finish image setup, you won’t be able to go back.
After you click to confirm the activation of vSphere Lifecycle Manager, you will see several tasks start in vCenter. Monitor these while the hosts are checked and the imaging mechanism is activated with vLCM.
Since vLCM operates at the cluster level, you can certainly mix and match the clusters where you use vLCM and those where you continue to use VUM. However, within a cluster, you can only use one or the other.
Of course, all legacy servers (before vSphere 7) will continue to use the old VUM technology along with the baselines.
Just Another It Blog: Scale Out Vmware Identity Manager
The new vSphere Lifecycle Manager (vLCM) is a great new addition to vSphere 7. It provides a much newer methodology for applying updates using the declarative approach and desired state.
It is powerful in several ways, including the ability to include host firmware in the desired state of ESXi hosts in a cluster. Updates and components are effectively integrated into the base image of the ESXi host image that is applied to the vSphere cluster. Fortunately, that’s not true, but vRealize Lifecycle Manager will allow system administrators to spend their time building services instead of installing and configuring the platform. Now, shortly after the initial release on September 20, VMware has already released a new version of vRealize Lifecycle Manager. vRealize Lifecycle Manager allows you to quickly install and configure a new vRealize deployment or upgrade an existing vRealize environment. On top of that, vRealize Lifecycle Manager offers health monitoring, patch management, configuration management, bug fixes, and updates to the entire vRealize Suite.
VRealize Lifecycle Manager 1.1 now includes a set of essential features that should make this new product even more popular than it already is.
You can use vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager to search for and download content from the Marketplace. This significantly improves time to market for vRealize products. Imagine implementing vRealize Automation with vRealize Lifecycle Manager and importing content from the Marketplace, maybe customizing it and being in business.
Vmware Lifecycle Manager Import Updates Bundle And Patch Esxi Server
Configuration Drift shows product configuration changes over time and allows you to revert a product to a previous configuration state.
VRealize Lifecycle Manager uses the product baseline to generate configuration change reports that show how the current product configuration differs from the baseline configuration. To do this, simply save your known good/base configuration to a file. You can now generate a configuration drift report to see changes in a product’s current configuration compared to the baseline you saved earlier. When generating a configuration drift report, you can choose to get a full report or a report on only the configuration changes compared to the baseline.
This is a feature that is in high demand and allows you to delete a vRealize Lifecycle Manager managed environment. Deleting an environment deletes the vRealize Lifecycle Manager environment, but does not delete the products in the environment. You can delete both successful and failed environment deployments. You cannot delete environments that were partially deployed and did not complete successfully or could not be deployed.
The selected environment will now be removed from vRealize Lifecycle Manager. You can view the progress of the delete operation on the Requests page. If the delete operation fails, try the delete operation again without deleting virtual
